Celebrating the Majestic Bhanu Jayanti: A Triumph of Culture and Literature

The Bhutanese Canadian Association of Windsor and Essex County (BCA), in collaboration with Aankura Sahitya Chautari, recently hosted a remarkable celebration of Bhanu Jayanti. This grand event, held at the esteemed Nepali Palace restaurant, was a resounding success, bringing together community members and literature enthusiasts to honor the esteemed poet Bhanubhakta Acharya and his remarkable contributions to Nepali language and literature.

The festivities commenced at precisely 12 PM, with the program being graciously hosted by Lekh Poudeyal, Director of Nepali Language & Literature. The chief guest of the event, Bhanu Dhungana, added a touch of distinction to the occasion. In a poignant moment, Bhanu Dhungana paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary Bhanubhakta Acharya, lighting a lamp, and placing a garland upon a photograph of the late poet. His speech was a glimpse into the profound contributions of the “Aadikabi” to the development and enrichment of the Nepali language and literature.

The program continued with spellbinding performances by talented artists. Bala Ram Kafley, Rajen Adhikari, Jaya Humagain, and Ohm Pokharel mesmerized the audience with their “रुहाई” and captivating poetry recitations.

Towards the end of the program, a thought-provoking open floor discussion took place, centered around the vital topic of promoting the Nepali language to the younger generation. Participants engaged in an impassioned exchange of ideas, brainstorming innovative approaches to ensure the preservation and appreciation of the language’s rich heritage within the Bhutanese Canadian community. The open dialogue served as a reminder of the shared responsibility to pass down this cultural treasure to future generations.

The entire event was held at the delightful Nepali Palace restaurant, providing a fitting backdrop for this joyous occasion.
